Design Your Future Smile
The journey to a new smile is a shared commitment between you and your doctor. By following these simple steps, you will protect your investment and ensure your treatment stays on track. Consistency is key.
Types of Braces
We provide several systems to help you achieve your look. During your consultation, we will determine which option provides the best way to achieve your goals.
Metal braces are the most common way to transform a smile. They are durable, efficient, and allow you to show off your personality with different colored bands.
Ceramic braces, also known as clear braces, use brackets made of tooth-colored material. They are designed to be less noticeable, offering discretion for those who want a more subtle look.
The Best Choice for You
Your board-certified orthodontist will use the iTero™ scanner as a planning and diagnostic tool to create a digital map of your smile and bite. This helps us decide if metal or ceramic braces are the best way to reach your goals.

Braces Reviews
I have had a great experience with Dr. Duthie and staff at Duthie Orthodontics the past 1.5 years. They are very accommodating with scheduling appointments or adding any additional adjustment appointments as needed. Getting braces as an adult was something I was unsure about, but has been the best decision with Dr. Duthie and Michele's assistance.
Michelle R was a fantastic tech! 4 years of braces is a long time and with broken brackets and other unscheduled hiccups, Michele went out of her way to help the process run as smoothly and quickly as it possibly could.
Our experience with Dr. Duthie has been fantastic. Dr. Duthie is not only a knowledgeable, skilled, expert orthodontist, but he is also a kind, welcoming doctor who is able to relate to his teenage (and younger and older) patients. My son actually liked going to all the appointments just to get to talk with Dr. Duthie. My son's teeth aligned exactly as explained by Dr. Duthie before he applied the braces. We are beyond happy with the result. We also are so thankful for Dr. Duthie's amazing office. The entire team there is so supportive, welcoming, attentive and friendly. We always got an immediate call back when we called with a "broken bracket" emergency and Carrie always found a way to fit us in. The entire team at Duthie Orthodontics is professional, friendly, caring and welcoming. The entire experience was just excellent, Dr. Duthie and his team always exceeding our expectations. Wearing braces can be tough for teens (for anyone), but thanks to Dr. Duthie and his team, we sailed through this experience and are so thankful for Duthie Orthodontics.
I brought my three children in who greatly need braces. I explained that our family finances were tricky and I wasn’t sure if this would be a possibility. They carefully reviewed all of our options and came up with something we could work with!! It felt like a miracle!
Laurie did my braces and she killed it ! The people here are extremely nice and so so easy to talk to

Frequently Asked Questions
What foods can I eat with braces?
Maintaining your appliances is critical for seeing results. You can enjoy many of your favorite meals by choosing softer options that do not strain the brackets.
For dairy and grains, enjoy soft cheeses, yogurt, pancakes, and pasta. When choosing proteins, soft-cooked chicken, fish, and meatballs are excellent choices. For fruits and vegetables, choose bananas, applesauce, and steamed or mashed vegetables. You can still enjoy treats like ice cream (no nuts), soft cake, and gelatin.
Which foods should I avoid?
To prevent damage and keep your treatment moving forward, avoid items that are hard, sticky, or crunchy.
Stay away from crunchy or hard items like popcorn, chips, ice, nuts, and hard candies. Avoid sticky or chewy foods such as gum, caramel, licorice, and bagels. Do not bite directly into corn on the cob, whole apples, or raw carrots—slice these into small pieces instead.
Do braces hurt?
It is natural for your teeth to feel tender for a few days after a visit. This is a sign that the system is working to move teeth into their ideal positions.
To find relief, dissolve one teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Swish the solution in your mouth for two minutes to soothe irritation. If your brackets rub against your cheeks, apply a small amount of orthodontic wax over the metal to create a smooth surface.
What if a wire or band comes loose?
Life is active, and sometimes an appliance may need a quick adjustment. If a wire feels loose, you can use the eraser end of a pencil to gently push it back against the tooth. Use wax to cover any sharp ends and call our office immediately. We will schedule a time to secure the component and keep your progress on schedule.
Can I still play sports?
You can continue to lead an active life. We provide high-quality mouthguards that fit over your braces. This approach protects both your teeth and your appliances from impact. In the event of a sports-related injury, check your mouth for damage and contact us right away.
Why do my teeth feel loose?
Imagine your teeth moving into a new alignment. To do this, the braces must first loosen the teeth. This feeling is a normal part of the process. Once your teeth reach their final destination, they will settle and feel firm again.
How long does treatment take?
The timeline is different for every person. By wearing your rubber bands as directed and avoiding hard foods, you help ensure your treatment finishes on time.
